1st Clinic Visit

Results: Newt count: 350
Platelets: 89
Weight: 8 lbs 15 oz
Age: 3 Weeks

Wow...a 3:00 appointment makes for a long day. We just walked in the door (it's 7:00). Part of what makes it long is that I need to make sure his tummy is full before we get on the road each time, so there is no just jumping in the car and going. There are diapers to change too, so all that needs to be planned into the schedule. Just before we left fo C-ville, he had one of those lovely blow outs (I believe no poop was even in his diaper, it was all up his back side...)

Then there is the CBC...today we waited an hour and a half and only got a preliminary result before we left. The doc called soon after with final counts. I saw the message as we were driving out the longest parking garage in the world ... which has a huge construction project making it the loudest parking garage too. The noise somehow made it feel more stressful.

A "clinic visit" is just not a quick ordeal, it wore me out. But I'm relieved that for this week the numbers are okay and we don't have to return until next week and that for all the hustle around getting there and back again that he did so well - he didn't cry for anything (being weighed, blood pressure, finger prick).

It is sooo good to be home again. Being in the hospital gave such a sinking feeling.

And really, the meals people have been bringing have been a huge blessing...from the first day back (that food helped me believe I really was home again...) to the crazy day we had to take him to the doc because of his yeast diaper rash and really had no time to cook, to tonight - the meal was hot and waiting for us and after a day of pure nerves and eating very little, this meal seemed to feed my soul. It hit the spot for all of us. Thank you to everyone who have been feeding us so well!

  1. Oh Laura, those numbers are super great! What a relief for everything to be going up! Maybe next week the newts will be over 700! And those blow outs are ridiculous. I have a picture of our worst one, where the entire back of his onesie is visible lumpy with poop. The joys of parenthood!
