Done....but not fun

That was not fun.

It was simple enough. But grueling. We brought him to the room for the procedure. They started him on sedation through his line. Then they turned him over onto his belly...it just wasn't easy to watch your baby be semi-limp and then laid out like that.We then waited just outside the door in a dingy hallway. It was the hall where nurses lounges were as well as the janitors closets and laundry shoot (I was studying all the doors and signs... as there was nothing else to do). We could hear the machine beeping telling us his heart was beating along... They told us it would take 15-20 mins. I think it took much longer...I think it was about 40 minuets. After a while we couldn't help but feel a little concerned, as it really seemed to long.

When they finally invited us back in he was just laying there, completely out. It took a little longer for him to wake up... we brought him back to the room while he was still pretty much out. Then, like the other day, he had to get his groove back on and figure out how to nurse again. The other day took no time at all. Today took way longer. He was very agitated and it was just so hard to watch him not be able to do the one thing he really just wanted to do.

The doctor had to to a little more poking than I guess she originally hoped, so now he is on Tylenol for sure. Poor little guy. He also as to be "wired" up again - on the pulse aux for 12 hour to make sure he doesn't forget to breath for a moment - essentially apnea (apparently that can happen after anesthesia).

No word on his ANC today (actual neutrophil count). I'm assuming because it was zero no one bothered to even tell us. When we saw the hematologist for the bone marrow biopsy we were too focused on what was happening to ask her.

Also, no word about taking him off of one of the antibiotics. Again, need to bug the doctor and find out if she spent more time thinking about it and made a decision.

Glad it's over. It really just wasn't fun to see him all floppy and take so long to wake up...

And he's pretty fussy right now...poor guy. I know in part it's because he took in a bit of air while chuggin' down some milk. But, we need the nurses to give him some Tylenol already... doc went to get them on it, but that was already five minuets ago.

Update:
Hematologist came in just before I posted. She did order antibiotics stopped. Both of them. Now for the next two days we watch and see if his infection stays away.

I asked, and I was correct. ANC still zero.

Doc still finds it too far a stretch for this to be something else if his sister (Gwen) had alloimune neutropenia. That makes me feel a little better...but she really doesn't know what to make of the platelets going down as week. (Myers says: the doctor's theory is that his bone marrow can only make so many blood cells and that the GCSF is asking it to make neutrophils, so it's making less platelets)
